Kent County Council has spent £219,900 refurbishing Queenborough Library and Family Hub, combining books, digital access and family support in a single building — and visitor numbers are already up 16%.
Residents in Queenborough can now borrow books, get online, join community activities and access family support services without leaving the same building — after the library reopened following a refurbishment that shut it in January 2026. A celebration event on Thursday 30 July brought together residents, community partners and local representatives to mark the completion of the £219,900 project.
The work merged library and Family Hub services into one refurbished space, placing dedicated support for children, young people and families alongside books and computers. Since reopening earlier this year, footfall has risen by 16%.
Richard Palmer, Cabinet Member for Communities and Regulatory Services, said: “It was fantastic to celebrate the reopening of Queenborough Library and Family Hub and see residents enjoying this improved community facility. The refurbishment has created a brighter, more flexible and welcoming environment that reflects the needs of the local community while providing excellent facilities for residents of all ages. The 16% increase in footfall since reopening demonstrates just how valuable this building is to local people.”
Paul Webb, Cabinet Member for Integrated Children’s Services, said: “The reopening of Queenborough Library and Family Hub is an important step in strengthening support for local children, young people and families. By bringing library and Family Hub services together, we are making it easier for families to access information, advice and activities in a familiar and welcoming setting.”
Queenborough Library closed in January 2026 for the refurbishment works, which form part of Kent County Council’s programme of investment in library buildings across the county.
The reopening event included activities for families and a chance to meet staff and find out what’s on offer.
