Man charged after alleged knife threat at Swanley Asda car park

A 46-year-old man has been charged following a Kent Police investigation into an alleged attempted robbery at an Asda car park in Swanley, in which an 86-year-old man was reportedly threatened with a knife.

Kent Police announced the charge in connection with an incident that allegedly took place between 12.20pm and 12.30pm on Saturday 10 October 2026 at the Asda car park on London Road, Swanley. The 86-year-old victim was allegedly approached as he got into his car.

The suspect allegedly grabbed the man’s arm and pressed a knife, reported to be around four inches long, against his stomach. He then allegedly demanded the victim’s bank card, PIN number and £500 in cash. The victim pushed the suspect away and left the scene.

Kent Police had previously released a CCTV image seeking information about a man they wished to speak to in connection with the incident. The force recorded the matter under reference 46/168321/26.

Darren Fraser, of West Park Road, Maidstone, has been charged with attempted robbery, shoplifting and fraud. He is expected to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on 15 October 2026. A charge does not establish guilt, which can only be determined by a court.
